Project Description and Objectives:
    
The project aims at benefiting from the water of the Blue Nile by increasing the storage capacity of Roseires Dam with about 4.40 billion m3 to reach 7.40 billion m3 and using the spill water to intensify agriculture in an area of 1.70 million hectares of irrigated lands. The project also aims at generating additional hydroelectric energy of about 800 gigawatt/hour per year. The project includes the following components:
    a. Civil works including increasing the heightening of the dam by an additional of 10 meters and increasing the length of the earth embankments on the eastern bank of the river with about 4.50 km and on the western bank with about 7 km in order to increase the storage capacity from 3 billion m3 to about 7.40 billion m3 of water.
    b. Hydro mechanical and electric works.
    c. Consultancy services.
    d. Possession of lands which will be immersed by spill water in the dam lake and resettlement of the affected inhabitants.

Project Description and Objectives:
    
The project aims at eliminating poverty, improving the economic conditions of the inhabitants who work in seasonal agricultural and pasturing activities and providing new job opportunities through the construction of a fully integrated project for the production of sugar, energy, fodders and other food, vegetation and animal product. The project includes the following components:

     a. Irrigation channels: this includes the construction of  a main earth channel with a length of 20 km. Three main channels shall branch from it to supply water to the channels irrigating fields. The area of a field ranges from 60 to 81 hectares. Water needs are estimated at 55 M3 per second to be pumped from the Blue Nile by two pumping plants.

     b. Cultivation of an area of land of 52,650 hectares out of which 42,525 hectares shall be allocated for sugarcane, 8100 hectares for cash-generating crops sunflower, corn and sesame and 2,025 hectares for forests.

     c. Civil works for the sugar factory.

     d. Provision of machinery and equipment of the factory including diesel generators plant, power conversion plant, high voltage lines, two steam turbine plants, plant of cane reception and extraction of juice.

     e. Pre-operation costs.

     f. Possession of lands and settlements including cash and in-kind compensations for the 70,000 inhabitants of the area and relocated them in about 34 Villages.
