Baku, Republic of Azerbaijan, 05 November 2025, SPAThe Saudi Fund for Development (SFD), alongside fellow members of the Arab Coordination Group (ACG), participated in high level meetings in Baku with the President of Azerbaijan, HE Ilham Aliyev, and the Prime Minister, HE Ali Asadov. These meetings were followed by the Arab Coordination Group-Azerbaijan Roundtable, with a keynote speech delivered by Azerbaijan’s Minister of Economy, HE Mikayil Jabbarov.

Roundtable discussions focused on aligning development financing with Azerbaijani’s strategic priorities and exploring opportunities for future collaboration in infrastructure sectors such as transport connectivity and water and sanitation.

Following the event, the parties signed a Statement of Intent expressing their shared commitment to exploring and strengthening cooperation in the identification, preparation, and potential financing of infrastructure projects. The Statement also highlights support for feasibility studies, technical assessments, knowledge sharing, and capacity-building activities. The signing reflects a renewed commitment by SFD and ACG partners to continue supporting Azerbaijan’s national development agenda, leveraging multilateral collaboration to address strategic sectors and advance sustainable growth for years to come.

HE Sultan Abdulrahman Al-Marshad, CEO of SFD, said: “We have been a partner to Azerbaijan for more than two decades, financing projects in education, water, and transport that have strengthened communities and improved public services. Today’s signing of the Statement of Intent marks a new chapter, signaling our shared readiness to deepen collaboration in areas such as transport, water and sanitation, and other infrastructure projects critical to sustainable development.”

SFD’s partnership with Azerbaijan dates back to 2003 and has already delivered five projects valued at over USD 100 million. These include the Khirdalan Water Supply and Sewerage Network expansion, construction of five secondary schools in Baku, upgrades to the Yevlakh-Ganja highway, and improvements to the Samur-Absheron canal system.
