The CEO of the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD), H.E. Mr. Sultan bin Abdulrahman Al-Marshad, participated in the inauguration of two university development projects in the Republic of Indonesia: the development of Jakarta State University and Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang State University. The SFD is contributing over USD 88 million in funding for both projects, as part of its commitment to supporting the education sector across various regions in Indonesia.
The development and upgrading of the Jakarta State University Project (Phase II) is funded by the SFD and is valued at over USD 32.7 million. The project involves the construction of four 10-story buildings, a grand mosque, and a social development center, covering a total area of approximately 44,000 square meters. These facilities aim to increase the university’s student capacity from 28,000 to 40,000. The inauguration ceremony was attended by H.E. Dr. Brian Yuliarto, Indonesia’s Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology; H.E. Dr. Qamaruddin, Rector of the University; H.E. Mr. Faisal bin Abdullah Al-Amoudi, Ambassador of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques to Indonesia; along with other senior officials.
In parallel, the Development of Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang University (Phase II) East Java Project is supported by the SFD with funding exceeding USD 55.5 million. This project includes constructing five buildings equipped with renewable solar energy systems. Among these are new faculties for engineering, pharmacy, and medicine, in addition to a research center, an Islamic studies center, and a university housing complex covering around 42,000 square meters. The project also encompasses the upgrade of specialized facilities and the provision of modern equipment and technologies. The inauguration was attended by H.E. Professor Muhammad Zainuddin, Rector of the University; Mr. Ali Al-Harbi, Second Secretary at the Embassy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Indonesia; and various officials from both sides.
It is worth noting that since 1976, the Saudi Fund for Development has provided development support to Indonesia through the financing of 12 projects and programs across key sectors such as agriculture, transportation, health, education, industry, and mining. These were supported through concessional development loans exceeding USD 396 million, contributing to Indonesia’s social development and sustainable economic growth.
