Sri Lanka – Monday,14 July 2025

The Chief Executive Officer of the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD), H.E. Mr. Sultan Al-Marshad, participated today in the inauguration of Wayamba University Township Project in the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka. The project is funded by the SFD with a contribution of USD 28 million, and the ceremony was attended by the Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Higher Education, and Vocational Training, Mr. Nalaka Kaluwewa, the KSA Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Mr. Khalid Al-Kahtani, and officials from both sides. This initiative is part of SFD’s ongoing support for the educational sector across various regions in Sri Lanka.

The project aims to improve access to quality education and foster a conducive learning environment by establishing seven modern educational facilities. These facilities will support the growth and development of students, enhance the university’s role in providing opportunities for urban communities, and strengthen modern education systems. The project is expected to benefit more than 5,000 individuals, including students and university staff, contributing to empowering individuals and communities, developing skills, and fostering inclusive growth and prosperity.

It is worth noting that since 1981, the Saudi Fund for Development has financed 15 development projects and programs in Sri Lanka, supporting key sectors such as water, agriculture, transport, health, and education. These projects have been funded through concessional development loans exceeding USD 424 million, contributing to the country’s sustainable social and economic development.
