Sri Lanka – Tuesday, 15 July 2025

The President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, H.E. Mr. Anura Kumara Dissanayake, received the Chief Executive Officer of the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD), Mr. Sultan Al-Marshad, in the presence of the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to Sri Lanka, Mr. Khalid Al-Kahtani, along with several officials from both sides.

The meeting underscored the strong development partnership between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Sri Lanka, which spans nearly 45 years, and explored ways to enhance development cooperation through the financing of vital projects and programs that contribute to social growth and economic prosperity in Sri Lanka.

The visit comes as part of SFD delegation’s participation in the inauguration of the Wayamba University Township Development Project, funded by the SFD with a contribution of USD 28 million, in support of the education sector across Sri Lanka.

It is worth noting that since 1981, the Saudi Fund for Development has financed 15 development projects and programs in Sri Lanka through concessional development loans exceeding USD 424 million, supporting key sectors including water, agriculture, transport, health, and education, and contributing to the country’s sustainable development goals
